Has Your Tenant Abandoned Your Property?
Has Your Tenant Abandoned Your Property?
Has your tenant appeared to have left your property without giving you notice?
Learn what you need to do when your tenant has abandoned your property by following these simple steps….
What To Do When Your Tenant Has Abandoned Your Property
-
Try contacting the tenant and any of their friends and family that you intend to take over your property if the tenant does not intend to return or get in touch with you
-
Speak to your tenants neighbours and check if they have seen your tenant recently. If they have ask them to pass on the message that you would like to speak to the tenant to see if they are planning on returning to the property
- Attach an Abandonment Notice to the front of the door notifying the tenant and any of their friends or family who visit that you intend to take over the property
- If you need to remove your tenants furniture and belongings from the property then you will need to safeguard these just in case your tenant wants these back.
You should have a clause in your tenancy agreement which outlines what will happen to the tenants goods in case of abandonment.
- Please note you need to make every effort to contact the tenant and only take possession if you truly believe the tenant has abandoned
